Travel Package at the Center of the Inca Empire
Day 1: Arrival in Lima - Welcome to Peru. Upon arrival in Lima, our personnel will be waiting for you to take you to the arranged hotel. Most international flights arrive late in the evening and your morning flight to Cusco will leave early, so we recommend a good night´s sleep.
Day 2: Lima to Cusco / City Tour: Koricancha / Sacsayhuaman Our personnel in Lima will take you from the hotel to the airport for your direct flight to Cusco, a spectacular 70-minute flight that will take you over the glaciated peaks of the Cordillera Vilacabamba and Vilcanota and the quilt of Andean fields, tiny hamlets and red-tiled roofs that make up Cusco and its Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Our personnel will be waiting for you at Cusco airport to take you to your hotel for a relaxing time and a delicious Coca tea. At agreed time we will start a tour of Cusco city with visits to Koricancha - the ancient Inca Temple, the archeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, perched just above Cusco, where you can wonder at how Inca engineers so perfectly fitted the huge stones that make up the complex walls. We will also visit the Cathedral of Cusco city - Plaza de Armas, Q'enqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. All along this tour you will appreciate Incan archaeological sites, interact with traditional
weavers and feed South American camelids, including the Vicuña, Guanaco, Llama, and Alpaca.Day 3: Exploring the Sacred Valley - Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Archaeological Complexes and Markets. Day three takes you to the most beautiful attractions of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first visit is to the colonial town of Pisac and the Inca ruins that sit on a mountain spur 1900 feet above the town.
You will first stroll through the ruins, taking in the tremendous views of the agricultural terracing that wraps around the mountain and the valley below. Note the Inca crosses representing the three levels of existence and the sun temple. Here you will have some time to explore the town with its small adobe homes and peruse the lively market for handmade textiles, ceramics, jewelry and crafts.
You will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Urubamba – one of the best gourmet experiences in the Sacred Valley – and head towards Ollantaytambo archaeological group. After the guided tour, we will head towards Chinchero archaeological group, church and market. We will then return to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 4: Machu Picchu - Train Journey to Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu Town. After a good night sleep and a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up to head towards the train
station of Poroy or Ollantaytambo and then have the train journey to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). This afternoon is free for you to relax at the foot of the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu; there are numerous possible activities to be done in Aguas Calientes on this day; you can relax at the hotel of your choice, visit the thermal pools / hot springs, visit the small museum, go shopping to the market, have a delicious lunch / dinner or just walk around the little town. Get ready for the next day.
Day 5: Grand Tour of Machu Picchu - At agreed time we will go on a bus ride up to the archaeological group of Machu Picchu. We will take you on an incredible guided tour of the ruins of Machu Picchu. Enjoy the complicated history of the site, note its exceptionally fine stonework and take in the awe-inspiring scenery. After the guided tour, you will have some free time to go on exploring the site alone or with our guide. After a complete overview of the site, you will lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge or at the restaurant of your choice.
For the energetic, there are numerous short hikes to be done early on this day; contact our travel experts for more information and to book any of the additional hikes in and around Machu Picchu, the most popular being the climb up Huayna Picchu or the climb up to Machu Picchu Mountain.
Later in the afternoon, after the grand tour of Machu Picchu, some free time to explore the archaeological group on your own, and your lunch, we will take the train from Aguas Calientes to Poroy / Ollantaytambo train station. We will then have a van journey back to your hotel in Cusco.
Day 6: Visit to Moray Agricultural Terraces / Maras Salt Mines / Visit to a Local Community. At around 09:00 in the morning, our personnel will pick you up from the hotel to take you on the tour of Moray – Inca ruins shaped like an amphitheater that may have been an experimental agricultural station. You will continue to Maras, a small town renowned for its colonial doorways; finally, you will descend an ancient path to salt mines that have been in continuous use since pre-Incan times. They are
truly unique. After a traditional lunch, we will visit a small village nestled among Andean peaks at the edge of Lake Piuray, where the inhabitants continue to live much as they did one hundred years ago. The women of this village practice traditional, Incan weaving techniques – some of the oldest in the Americas – and the more than 50 unique designs produced here have spread throughout the region. This visit is far off the beaten path and gives you the opportunity to experience the hospitality of Peru´s Andean people.
Day 7: Cusco - Private Walking Tour of Cusco. On day seven, you will take a private walking tour of one of Peru´s most attractive, fascinating cities: Cusco. Your guide will illuminate past and present, from the Inca walls and sun temple to the Pre-Columbian Art Museum to the ancient churches and cathedrals
to the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas to the bustling modern market in San Pedro. The afternoon will be free so you can explore Cusco on your own.Day 8: Cusco to Lima - Return Home.
